Clean, spacious, offering secure, undercover parking. The front desk staff are friendly, courteous and helpful. Newspapers are provided daily and room-service is good. Modern air-conditioned rooms are clean, well-equipped. Queen-sized bed, double seater lounge chair, fully-equipped kitchenette with microwave, kettle, mini-bar fridge. Breakfast can be ordered for your room and the staff can arrange transport for you.
A laundry and ice-machine are located on the first floor. Internet access is available in your room and movies can be streamed to your room on the well-sized TV. The ensuites are roomy and provide shampoo, conditioner, soap, shower cap and hairdryer. There isn't a pool but there is a lovely sun deck on the roof with 360 degree views where you can enjoy a meal or coffee from your room. The best thing about The Sands is that you can walk out the front door and just a few metres away to the left is the Pacific Ocean lapping a beautiful, clean beach.
Coogee Beach is a great place to stay and visit. It can be reached easily by car or bus. The bus stop was a short distance from the Hotel and we were also provided with secure, undercover parking for our vehicle. Coogee is a beautiful beach providing safe patrolled areas for swimming, surfing, fishing and beach sports such as volleyball and beach cricket. There are rock pools at the southern end of the beach and baths for women and children.
The grassed parklands adjacent to the beach provide shade and a safe, family-friendly environment for all. A great place to picnic or relax. The local council cleans the area regularly and is pristine every morning. A back-packers hostel keeps the area charged with excitement. There are numerous cafes and restaurants as well as take-away stores nearby. Italian, Thai, Greek, Tapas, Chinese, Indian, Lebanese, Subway, Garlos Pies, Kebabs and Oporto are on offer.
There are organic fruit markets as well as a Woolworths Metro store and other convenience stores nearby. The Coogee bay Hotel is open for meals and drinks, entertainment and gaming. The Coogee Palace Hotel next door to The Sands Hotel has a bistro and cafe. I recommend the Coogee Bite Cafe just around the corner to the north of The Palace as well as Barzura Cafe on the southern end of the beach. Stroll along the pathways to the north of Coogee Beach for a great view out to sea and get up early to watch the sun rise.
The pathways lead north and south for a great walk. And make sure you take a stroll along the waterfront at dusk when families and lovers are out and about. Enjoy your stay at Coogee. A great place. We will be back.
